Sisterlocks are Resilient!

PictureWe are family, I got all my Sisters with me!
Not only are Sisterlocks resilient, so are our Consultants and Sisterlocks Family! I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that we will come out of this stronger and more resilient than ever!

Many states have imposed orders to close non-essential businesses.  This includes  beauty salons and barber shops. As an independent business owner, you should follow the rules imposed by your state. If you're exempt and choose to remain in business, please follow health and safety guidelines to remain healthy and not contract or spread the disease.  This is a personal decision and Sisterlocks does not advise, either way. Whatever you do, operate in your comfort level and be safe.

For Clients who may be forced to miss appointments, don't despair.  Sisterlocks are resilient and a few weeks beyond your normally scheduled appointment, will usually be OK. For various reasons, Military deployment, illness or times of financial distress, we've had Clients who have reported going several months without a re-tightening. This would be extreme and regularly scheduled appointments are recommended to maintain the integrity of your Sisterlocks.

With that said, there's nothing regular or normal about the times we're facing! I've  never faced a "safe at home" order or been advised to keep a six foot distance from other people. Going to the supermarket feels like something out of a Sci-fi movie! I appreciate the precautions taken but it's foreign to me on so many levels.

Precautions are necessary. You must also take precautions to maintain your locks between retightening appoints:
  1. Keep your hair clean, conditioned and SEPARATED.  Normally, we advise separating locks after a shampoo or anytime you fully immerse your hair with water.  As the hair grows out and you miss a retightening, separate your hair a few times a week.
  2. Opt for styles that don't stress the hair at the roots. Freestyle, roller sets or loose braid outs will provide a long lasting style that will last from shampoo to shampoo. Pinning it up in a bun may protect your hair and keep it out of the way.
Arrange to take an official Sisterlocks Re-tightening class, when you're able! This is an excellent way to self maintain your locks when you can't get an appointment. R-Certified Consultants can be found on the web site by searching "R-Cert."
Family, don't forget how fabulous and resilient you are during these tumultuous times. And remember, your Sisterlocks are just as fabulous and resilient as you!

Don't Forget Positivity!

Great day, Sisterlocks Family! It's apparent that we're facing some very challenging circumstances.  I want to remind you that positivity will save the day!

It may be tempting to devour all of the news you can about the pandemic. I strongly discourage that. Updates are necessary in order to know how to go about our day to day activities. Checking valid news outlets/websites will accomplish this. From there, it's important to go about "normal" daily activities. I can hear you now, "yeah right, how do you do that and be "safe at home," as ordered?

It doesn't take a lot to develop a new normal:
  • Drink plenty of water. I read that we should avoid ice and drink either room temperature and gargle with hot water, every day.
  • Eat healthy, balanced meals. Good nutrition will help build the immune system.
  • Get physical - no, you don't need a gym membership - a walk in your neighborhood will suffice, stream from a yoga app or get out those old exercise DVDs.
  • Take on projects that will stimulate your mind and distract you from the news!
    • Read a book
    • Clean/organize the linen closet
    • Shred old paperwork
    • Work on a scrapbook
  • Talk to your children and encourage them to join you in activities.
    • Have them help with meals.  This is a great time to teach them how to prepare balanced meals and healthy snacks.
    • Have them read to you and each other. The older children can help their younger siblings.
    • Work on puzzles together, do artwork, play music and dance!
    • Break out the board games or play a card game, Uno!

This is a time when we have to pull to the core and allow what's inside to carry us through - positivity! We're discouraged from group gatherings but call and check on someone you haven't heard from. Use Facetime or Skype to connect with loved ones.

Do all of this and then wash your hands :-)!

What are you doing to spread positivity? Share your tips so we can encourage each other. Peace and Love!
