Sisterlocks are Resilient!

PictureWe are family, I got all my Sisters with me!
Not only are Sisterlocks resilient, so are our Consultants and Sisterlocks Family! I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that we will come out of this stronger and more resilient than ever!

Many states have imposed orders to close non-essential businesses.  This includes  beauty salons and barber shops. As an independent business owner, you should follow the rules imposed by your state. If you're exempt and choose to remain in business, please follow health and safety guidelines to remain healthy and not contract or spread the disease.  This is a personal decision and Sisterlocks does not advise, either way. Whatever you do, operate in your comfort level and be safe.

For Clients who may be forced to miss appointments, don't despair.  Sisterlocks are resilient and a few weeks beyond your normally scheduled appointment, will usually be OK. For various reasons, Military deployment, illness or times of financial distress, we've had Clients who have reported going several months without a re-tightening. This would be extreme and regularly scheduled appointments are recommended to maintain the integrity of your Sisterlocks.

With that said, there's nothing regular or normal about the times we're facing! I've  never faced a "safe at home" order or been advised to keep a six foot distance from other people. Going to the supermarket feels like something out of a Sci-fi movie! I appreciate the precautions taken but it's foreign to me on so many levels.

Precautions are necessary. You must also take precautions to maintain your locks between retightening appoints:
  1. Keep your hair clean, conditioned and SEPARATED.  Normally, we advise separating locks after a shampoo or anytime you fully immerse your hair with water.  As the hair grows out and you miss a retightening, separate your hair a few times a week.
  2. Opt for styles that don't stress the hair at the roots. Freestyle, roller sets or loose braid outs will provide a long lasting style that will last from shampoo to shampoo. Pinning it up in a bun may protect your hair and keep it out of the way.
Arrange to take an official Sisterlocks Re-tightening class, when you're able! This is an excellent way to self maintain your locks when you can't get an appointment. R-Certified Consultants can be found on the web site by searching "R-Cert."
Family, don't forget how fabulous and resilient you are during these tumultuous times. And remember, your Sisterlocks are just as fabulous and resilient as you!

Hairline locks may require more frequent Retightening. Try braiding the loose hair to keep it brain breaking off between appointments.

I have curly fine hair, I know it will take longer to lock, if you head itch what would be a remedy or do I just need to wash my hair?

I pray that everyone is well and safe. I am in the process of taking down my sister locks (six years) and want to get them reinstalled.

The reason I am in the process of taking them down is because I have been out of work and still unemployed because of COVID-19. I have been trying to maintain my sister locks on my own and have been unsuccessful.

I have been quarantined since March and my hair is a hot mess. Getting my sister locks back in 2014, I would have never guess that I would be stuck like this.

Between family, friends, and church members, I experienced 13 deaths, 2 recoveries, 1 currently tested positive so I am concerned about safety.

My journey number two, I will be sure to take retightening classes. Starting over will be a financial struggle however, worth it. Any Advise.

I went to a salon in Tallahassee FL "Skies Limited" 3348 Mahan Drive, to request the installation of sister locks and the salon owner. Lesile, informed me that sister locks could be started from twists, the end results would be the same. I paid $350 for twist under the umbrella of sister locks. I got totally ripped off. It is part my fault for not doing my due diligence before hand. I have since learned that certified sister lock consultants/trainees are listed at the sister lock website. I have learned from posting on the sister lock Facebook site, that interlocking is not the same as retie. Her plan is to interlock my twist into I guess mirco-locks. The problem is it was done under the umbrella of sister locks. Consultant fee of $50 not applied to my service.

I love my sister locks and I wonder why I didn't know about them sooner.
My comment is not about my sister locks it about the Moisturizer spay.
My nephew had Psoriasis in his head, which made him bald and sores were in has head. He had been to several Doctors and nothing worked. I told him to try the moisturizer spay because it was suppose to be natural. He did, within a week the sores were gone and his hair grew back. Now it is the only thing he uses in his hair,
He has been using it for about a year. When I go to my consultant he ask me to pick up some for him. It made a nice Christmas gift also
I thank you and I know if my nephew was able, he too would thank you

June 2021 after covid: I only had my sisterlocs tightened twice in 18 months! And I didn't lose one loc. I rubber banded small sections and put all sections together in a ponytail or bun. I separated and moisturized often. I love my Sisterloc's. (20 years sisterloc'd)
