Life, Love and Locks!

So many are embracing the freedom, flexibility and the beauty of Sisterlocks. It really warms my heart to see couples supporting each other in the decision to wear natural hair. Back when I first started Sisterlocks I met far more women who were hesitant to lock because they didn't know how their decision would go over with their loved ones. Today, thankfully, we encounter that challenge far less. So, what changed?

I talk to couples all the time where at least one partner who has locked and I usually ask the men how they initially responded to their mates decision to lock. Answers range from, "it took me a while to understand where this was going; or, "I just wasn't feeling it; and on occasion, "it was MY idea because I knew she would look beautiful.

We know that's true because women who embrace their natural hair usually develop a deeper level of confidence they didn't have before. That confidence is born out of making a decision they know is right for them and it really doesn't matter if anyone else agrees. That's the change! Making the decision and allowing nothing else to matter! This happens when we are right with ourselves.

How did your mate react to your decision to lock? Did they need or have an attitude adjustment? Have they joined you on the journey and locked also? Sound off on how you're living and loving while locked! #letstalk

My husband knew I was on the fence for years having noticed a former colleague of his with Sisterlocks. He just wanted me to be confident and ready and he'd support me. He was tired of me having hair battles between cute twistouts, flat iron woes, mood shifts cause my hair wouldn't conform, and being frustrated on humid days. He kept encouraging me to just go get locks! After the install I was worried because my fro was gone and the hair looked flat for my full face. He said I was cute and it'd get better. So I waited. As the months progressed his hands in my hair, the compliments and my growing security were all evidence that the right decision had been made. When I talk about cuts, and changes now after 6 years, he says" no just stop, this was the right decision and your hair is beautiful". I agree, but every once and awhile I miss my fro! 💜

I began to grow my hair out right after the birth of our daughter in 2013.I was transitioning from Relaxed hair to natural hair. I had a shoulder length bob most of my life and my husband said that was one of the reasons he was attracted to me as I had thick, healthy looking hair.Fast forward a year later I had 3 fibroids removed, I became a vegetarian and I was doing everything in my power to prevent the fibroids from returning.I had researched that there was a link between the relaxers and fibroids do i took the decisio to go natural for my health. I had my sister locks established in September 2014. My husband was not happy but this was my decision to make not his.I knew he would come around once my length returned. My husband gave me a hard time in the early stages of growing out my relaxed ends with my locked roots.I chopped of the remaining relaxed August 2015.I just celebrated my 3 year locaversary on 15th of September and my husband can't keep his hands out of my hair and it is past my shoulders too.Moral of the story, Do you. Your husband will come around to natural journey in the end.

When I first went natural my husband didn't like braids. When my hair grew. He loved my twists. When I locked (traditional) he tried to be supportive...he loves my Sisterlocks. Now, he's locked up, too

My husband was supportive during my entire natural journey... I've been natural since 2014 and I got my locks in 5/2017 and he loves that I can take my satin cap off and go and my hair is always good without me even touching it.

The day I received my last relaxer was ironically the day I made the decision to seriously explore going natural. I began my research with an open mind. I considered traditionals, but they seemed so heavy and most who had them were showing lots of shiny scalp while their locks flowed beautifully down their backs. My niece had her first SL install around 2008. She reminded me of Medusa, the Greek god - all of these tiny "worms" on her head. I didn't care for them at first, but then they started to grow. It was like the moth/butterfly evolution, so lovely! Four years later, I too chose SL's. My husband watched me everyday, I know praying for a happy ending to my little worms. I am now the beautiful butterfly. He is amazed, and every time I pass a mirror, I am too. #3.5years of bliss!

Correction: my reference to Medusa; she was not a god, but a Gorgon monster in Greek mythology. I only referred to her for the hair similarity. Thanks!

I had been natural for 4 years and had looked into SLs for many years but was afraid to take that leap and the inability to find a loctician near. My husband has been my biggest supporter. My 2 year locaversary will be Nov. 1 and he has sat with me through EVERY appointment including the install. He loves my locks and I often hear him telling others about my journey, I think if he wasn't bald, he too would have sisterlocks. Definitely my best hair decision ever,
