Dance To Your Own Beat!

One thing I know for sure about Sisterlocks wearers:  We dance to our own beat!  This is because when we make the decision to lock  the benefits of wearing our natural hair far outweigh any of our choices in the past.

I've personally witnessed women getting Sisterlocks and having their self esteem and confidence soar through the roof!  I mean, you can't tell them anything!  If you don't believe me, check out Sisterlocks wearers in your world.  She/he is unapologetic about their decision to lock.

Sisterlocks brings about a lot of "firsts," for many of us.  We can remember the first time we didn't have to bundle to shampoo; the first time we shampooed our hair in the shower!   Rarely had we ever done that!  What about the first time you realized you couldn't find a comb anywhere in your house?  And I can remember the first time I was able to go swimming without that undying fear that an unplanned drop of water would land on my scalp!    Freedom!

It's a kind of freedom you can't explain to anyone, especially not to the people who look at you in wonder.  You just have to them look.  Occasionally, people will watch long enough to get it and they will often link their arm through yours and join you in the most liberating dance for people with nappy hair.

I have had my sisterlocks for 1 year and I love them! I never thought I'd be natural but I find myself wondering why I waited so long!

You're not alone! I'd bet 9 out of 10 people say that about their Sisterlocks journey!

I love my Sisterlocks! I have had my locs since 2014 and have enjoyed a life that does not have to revolve around what I can and cannot do with my hair, especially when I am rushed. I enjoy the compliments I receive and the healthiness of my hair and scalp. As a Holistic Health Consultant/Practitioner, I can fully represent a holistic as a lifestyle. In short, thank you, JoAnne Cornwell!

You're, right! It is a holistic lifestyle. Healthy hair is where many of us begin and then spreads to many other aspects of our lives.

I long for the day to really celebrate my locks. It's been two years, and while the hot comb or curler are no longer the nemesis, bundles that mat after shampoos are a heartache. I roll my hair using the setting lotion to hide matted ends, and fear further damage because my hair has not been nourished in two years--no oil of any kind. Truly need some guidance.

Setting lotion is not your friend. Your locks probably have a build up of the lotion that you can't see. If you were to cut one of your locks, you'd see a build up of gunk in the middle. As far as your locks not being nourished, there is no need for anything to be put in your hair. Just use a good clarifying shampoo. Wet your hair with water when you roll or braid it. I had to learn these things...I've had my locks for 10 years. Also, be sure to separate your locks after you shampoo, especially if you have a lot of new growth, and have them retightened every 4-6 weeks. You'll notice a difference, and you'll fall in love with your newfound hair freedom.

Make sure you are enjoying being natural and that your are not trying to make your locks something that they are not. Let them be. I have been locked for 3 years. I wish I could have gotten sisterlock when I was 3 years old. What a journey of freedom I could have enjoyed. Understand, the locks will make your hair...YOU please stop trying to make the locks. Enjoy.

Your hair nourishes itself with naturally occurring oils. Don't fall back into the "oiling the scalp" trap. Are you braiding and banding before you shampoo? I know not everyone continues to do this on mature locks, but I do and my locks benefit from it. Are you consistent with your re-ti's? What does your consultant say? Also, perhaps you should stop rolling your locks for a while, and stop using product. I would definitely talk with your consultant. Good Luck and God Bless!

Perhaps, it's the setting lotion that's causing your ends to become matted.

With respect and thanks to all...I braid and bundle before a wash, at least twice before the 4-6 week re-ti session, and separate the 600 locks after wash. Setting lotion with rollers may be a real issue; lotion buildup is not likely an issue as the locks are smaller than most folk. But the pattern looks more like tiny plaits than locks. I have long suspected the lock pattern wasn't right, and that the locks weren't maintained through its length (my hair was 7-8 inches long when established). I've heard other ladies describe their locking experience as "pulling the lock through with the new growth" or "pushing/pulling the hair down". Can anyone tell me the name of this lock pattern? I'm willing to do my part--stop the setting and rolling--if I can get the right locking pattern and re-tI done. Like CCWE, I too have spent a great deal of money and really don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water.

I love my sister locks. I have had them for 2.5 yesrs. Not only do I love the look. My surprise came when I have not had to use oil on my hair. The freedom is beyond real.

Glad I got sister locks

First I want to continue congratulating Dr. C for sharing our hair empowerment world wide. My comment/suggestion is about Sisterlocks 25th anniversary. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Dr. C's vision has reached my ountry Costa Rica via myself as a user and consultant. For 2018 my business Proud Locks will be celebrating four years since introducing the hairstyle, for this I am planning our second gathering. Since it is coinciding with the 25th celebration I am requesting Dr. If she could send a short history/celebratory video for the international Sisterlocks community. I think this would motivate our clients and pull potential users especially for those of us who live in countries where we are not the majority. Thanks again Dr. C for your vision for our empowerment.
